Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD (PBTISD) is excited to announce Pecos High School’s recent Award of Distinction recognition by the Texas Educational Theatre Association (TxETa). PHS received the Exemplary Campus tier for the 2024-25 school year. This prestigious accolade is the highest recognition achievable within TxETA's tiered award system.

Under the dedicated leadership of theatre director Katie Henson, the PHS theatre program has demonstrated exceptional achievement, curation of resources, diversity, and advocacy for theatre arts. This recognition illustrates the program’s commitment to raising the standards for theatre education within the school and district and across the state.

“We are deeply honored to receive this Award of Distinction from the  TxETA,” said Katie Henson. “We have worked tirelessly to build our program, and although we have room for growth, we are willing to invest in our students. Our students are the key to making any program successful.”

The TxETA Award of Distinction celebrates the significant contributions of colleges/universities, school districts, and theatre departments that enhance theatre education.

“This Award of Distinction from TxETA is a testament to the hard work, creativity, and passion of our students and the outstanding leadership of Katie Henson,” said Superintendent Brent Jaco. “We are incredibly proud of the PHS theatre program and look forward to witnessing its continued growth and success as we aim to provide them with state-of-the-art performance spaces.”

Congratulations to Pecos High School and Katie Henson on this well-deserved recognition. We eagerly anticipate the future successes and milestones of the PHS theatre program.
