The hair shall be clean, well-groomed, and not covering the eyes. Unusual hairstyles that distract from the educational setting will not be tolerated. Examples of extremes not allowed are geometric or unusual patterns shaved or cut into hair or eyebrows and Mohawks. Hair color must not distract from the educational environment; determination is made by the building principal. Unacceptable hairstyles are not limited to the examples given.

Beards shall not be acceptable. If a mustache is worn, it shall have a neat, well-groomed appearance and should not extend beyond or below the lips. Sideburns shall be kept neatly trimmed to not extend below the bottom of the ear or form a beard.

No type of head covering, hat, cap, or bandanna may be worn inside buildings, except as may be allowed for approved school activities.

Footwear shall be a part of regular attire. House shoes and roller shoes are not acceptable footwear for school.

Shorts are acceptable in all grades except those made of lycra, spandex, or unhemmed cut-offs. The bottom of the short should naturally fall to at least mid-thigh when standing normally.

No leggings or jeggings unless worn with an outer garment no shorter than four inches above the kneecap all the way around.

No pajamas or nightgowns are allowed, except on special occasions or deemed appropriate by the principal.

Clothing shall not permit excessive exposure of the body in front, back, or side view. Garments shall not be backless, excessively tight, nor permit exposure of cleavage. Appropriate undergarments shall be worn at all times.

Top and bottom garments must not separate to expose the student’s skin from the front, back, or side when performing normal school activities (bending, stretching, reaching, etc.).

Skirt length shall be no higher than four (4) inches above the top of the kneecap when measured with the student standing. Slits in skirts of any length shall reach no higher than four inches above the top of the kneecap.

The neck opening of any type of shirt or blouse must not exceed the equivalent of the second button below the collar button of a dress shirt.

Basketball jerseys, underwear-type tank tops, spaghetti straps, or backless and excessively tight shirts shall not be worn as a single blouse or shirt. See-through/chiffon blouses may not be worn without a shirt under them or a piece of clothing over the blouse.

Garments must not be extremely full or baggy in appearance. Trench coats and large overcoats are not allowed at any time.

Holes in garments/pants are not permitted if they are four (4) inches above the top of the knee or higher. Worn areas in jeans will be deemed holes if the skin or undergarment is visible through the clothing. A patch sewn inside the garment/pants of like material of the garment/pants is permitted to cover the fray or hole.

All clothing must be size appropriate and worn in the manner for which it is designed. Decorations, ornamentations, or vulgar, indecent, suggestive, macabre, or gang-related advertisements shall not be worn. Anything which promotes the use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco is not acceptable. All pants and shorts must be worn at the student’s hips. Sagging will not be permitted, and all undergarments must be covered. Shirt tails cannot extend beyond a student’s fingertips when standing in a normal position.

Sunglasses shall not be worn anywhere on your body inside school buildings except as may be allowed for approved school activities.

Blankets are not permitted to be worn in the building. Any dress or grooming that disrupts school or detracts from the learning environment is unacceptable.

Exceptions from these rules may be made only by the superintendent or principal, upon certification from a medical doctor, and if deemed necessary by school officials, certifying that the student has a physical deformity, abnormality, or handicapping condition and/or legitimate religious belief or practice and that compliance with the rules will be detrimental to the physical or emotional health of the student, or impair the student’s free exercise of religion.

With the approval of the campus principal, the sponsor, coach, or another person in charge of an extracurricular activity may regulate the dress and grooming of students who participate in that activity.

If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school. If not corrected, the student may be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day until the problem is corrected or until a parent or designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to the school. Repeated offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.

Students who violate the dress and grooming standards of the district shall be subject to appropriate disciplinary action. Students will be required to change into school-issued sweats and/or t-shirts unless they have a suitable change of clothing with them, or the parents can bring a change of clothing without the student missing class time to change.
