swim team with time capsule of awards

In a heartfelt and symbolic ceremony, Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD hosted a time capsule burying event at the new Pecos High School Natatorium site to celebrate the rich legacy of the PHS swim program. The time capsule, which contains 73 banners and numerous trophies from decades of success under the leadership of Coaches Terri Morse, marks the Natatorium’s theme, "Built on Success!"

The late Coach Terri Morse originally envisioned the time capsule during the early stages of the design and development of the new Natatorium. Unfortunately, Coach Morse, a beloved figure in Pecos High School’s swim program, passed away in early August. In addition to celebrating the new facility, this ceremony also served as a tribute to her legacy and the remarkable swimming tradition she helped build.

The Pecos High School’s swim program has achieved extraordinary success, earning recognition through numerous district and regional titles. The banners and trophies selected for the time capsule honor these moments of triumph and the countless hours of dedication from athletes and coaches alike.

“Terri Morse was more than a coach; she was a pillar of excellence, a mentor, and an inspiration for so many student-athletes and staff members alike,” said Superintendent Brent Jaco. “The legacy she leaves behind is unmatched, and this new Natatorium will forever symbolize her hard work, passion, and leadership. We are honored to dedicate this time capsule not only to the future success of our students but to the past success that she helped build.”

The new Natatorium is expected to be completed in the Summer of 2026. Click here to watch an animation of the new facility.
