Dear PBTISD Families and Community,
Ensuring the safety and security of our students, staff, and schools is one of our highest priorities at Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD. In alignment with this commitment, we will allow local first responders to conduct training exercises at the closed Crockett Middle School, 1801 Missouri St., this weekend. Additionally, a joint first responder comprehensive active shooter scenario drill will occur on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at this same campus. Due to the campus's transitional phase for construction, this is an excellent opportunity for our local entities to conduct beneficial training and an event at this scale.
The campus will be active with first responders throughout the weekend. The Tuesday, January 28 drill will last throughout the day and is a collaborative effort involving local safety agencies, including the Pecos Police Department, the Reeves County Sheriff’s Office, Reeves County Emergency Services District 1 & 2, and Reeves Regional Health.
This training will ensure that our district police and local safety partners are fully prepared to respond effectively to potential emergencies. It will simulate various scenarios, including the incident's initial response and aftermath.
What You Need to Know:
All of the activities at this closed campus are training exercises only. There will be no actual threat to students, staff, or community members.
To ensure the authenticity and effectiveness of the training, you may notice increased activity around the Crockett Middle School campus, including emergency vehicles and personnel.
The campus will be closed to the public for the duration of the exercise.
We understand that discussions surrounding such scenarios can be sensitive and difficult. However, this proactive measure reflects our unwavering commitment to the safety of our students and staff. By conducting these drills, we can identify areas for improvement and ensure that our response procedures are as effective as possible.
How You Can Help:
If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to PBTISD via “Just Ask” or by calling (432) 447-7201
We encourage families to talk with their children about the importance of these measures in ensuring their safety and well-being.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we take these necessary steps to prioritize safety in our district. Working together, we remain “Stronger Together” in our mission to provide a secure and nurturing learning environment.
Sincerely,
Brent Jaco
