Superintendent Brent Jaco and phs staff at groundbreaking with hardhats and shovels

Pecos-Barstow-Toyah Independent School District (PBTISD) proudly celebrated another major milestone today with the groundbreaking of Phase 2 projects at Pecos High School.

Superintendent Brent Jaco marked the occasion with inspiring words, emphasizing the impact of these projects. “Today, we are not just breaking ground for new buildings; we are laying the foundation for limitless opportunities, growth, and success for generations of Eagles to come,” Jaco said.

The new phase includes three major facilities that will reshape Pecos High School into a modern, unified campus:

The Academic Wing: A three-story hub of innovation and collaboration featuring a central library, exchange spaces, and think tanks to foster research, discovery, and community engagement.

The Athletic Wing: Housing two practice gymnasiums, an Olympic-sized natatorium, and state-of-the-art locker rooms and classrooms for athletes. The wing is connected to the campus by sky bridges, seamlessly integrating academic, technical, and athletic spaces.

The Athletic Field House: A two-story facility dedicated to advancing athletic and sports medicine programs, with features such as locker rooms for multiple sports, coaches' offices, a weight room, a cutting-edge training room, and a mat room to support the future addition of boys’ and girls’ wrestling programs.

Jaco credited the successful planning and design to extensive collaboration with the community, district staff, and students. “Every detail reflects a commitment to creating inspiring, nurturing, and empowering spaces,” he stated.

PBTISD remains partnered with VLK Architects and BTC Construction Management for these projects, both of whom were instrumental in bringing the district's vision to life.

“These projects symbolize much more than bricks and mortar. They are a testament to our community’s belief in the power of education and opportunity,” Jaco added.

This groundbreaking follows the district's continued investment in modernizing its facilities, supported by the 2023 Bond. Voters’ approval of the bond reflects a shared vision for providing exceptional resources for the students of PBTISD.

As shovels hit the dirt, Jaco concluded, “Together, we are building a future where Eagles will continue to soar. The new Pecos High School campus is more than a place—it is a promise to our students that they will always have the tools, support, and spaces they need to succeed."
