On August 26 at the monthly regular board meeting, the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD Board of Trustees approved Guaranteed Maximum Price Package #2 for the comprehensive additions and renovations of Crockett Middle School. As part of the phasing of the construction for CMS, Package #2 includes the complete construction of CMS and the demolition/abatement of some spaces in CMS.
In May 2023, voters approved the 2023 Bond, which would further support the significant facility needs of PBTISD. Included in the 2023 Bond was a comprehensive renovation and additions to the current Crockett Middle School campus. Similar to the 2021 Bond projects, CMS was designed by the individuals who will be utilizing the spaces. Administrators, teachers, and students all came together and gave input to the new CMS.
The new CMS will include a two-story academic building, renovations to band and athletic spaces, an additional platform to the cafeteria, an expanded library at the center of the campus, and new Career and Technical Education classroom spaces.
“Education is an ever-evolving journey, and it is an exciting time for PBTISD as we update our spaces to meet the needs of our students as they grow,” said Superintendent Brent Jaco. “The comprehensive additions and renovations to Crockett Middle School will allow us to create an environment that supports their development and prepares them for their next step to high school and beyond!"
Some additional features to CMS will include a new drop-off/pick-up lane in the back of the campus to alleviate traffic. An expanded bus lane and additional parking on the campus.
The GMP for this package is $83,254,268.00 and construction is set to begin in January 2025.
