Board Approves Significant Increases in Teacher Pay and Employee Benefits

The Pecos-Barstow-Toyah Independent School District (PBTISD) Board of Trustees has unanimously approved a comprehensive compensation plan aimed at enhancing compensation for educators and staff, reinforcing the district's commitment to attracting and retaining top talent.

The starting pay for teachers will rise from $55,500 to $58,000, reflecting the district's recognition of contributions made by educators. All full-time employees will receive a 4.5% raise increase, calculated from the midpoint of their salary schedule and the market median for teachers. This adjustment aims to ensure competitive compensation aligned with current living standards.

The district will additionally enhance its benefits package, increasing coverage from $555 to $600 monthly for staff, demonstrating a commitment to supporting the health and well-being of employees and their families. PBTISD will also offer up to a 15% annuity match, providing employees with additional financial security and investment opportunities for their future.

To attract top talent, the district will re-introduce recruitment stipends, including $3,000 for early commitment (May 1), $2,000 for early commitment (June 1), $1,500 for Welcome Home (PBTISD Alumni), $1,500 for relocation (single), $3,000 for relocation (couple hired by the district), and $2,000 sign-on bonus for special education and bilingual certified teachers.

To meet the community's growing needs, the district will add 26 full-time equivalent positions to staff the district. Many of these new positions will be assigned to the newly expanded Discovery School Daycare, further enhancing childcare options for employees with families.

"These measures demonstrate our unwavering dedication to our educators and staff, recognizing their pivotal role in shaping the future of our students and community," said Superintendent Brent Jaco. "By investing in our workforce, we are not only enhancing employee satisfaction and retention but also ensuring that our students receive the high-quality education they deserve."

The approved measures represent a significant milestone in the district's ongoing efforts to foster a supportive and rewarding work environment, further solidifying PBTISD's position as an employer of choice in the region.
