pbtisd administration and phs administration with Chevron representatives holding check for $50,000

Pecos-Barstow-Toyah Independent School District (PBTISD) is delighted to announce a generous $50,000 donation from Chevron to help inaugurate the Oil and Gas Program in their new Career and Technical Education (CTE) facility at Pecos High School. This significant contribution will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape for students in the Pecos community.

The donation comes as part of the ongoing development of the Pecos High School Career & Technical Education (CTE) & Science Wing. Groundbreaking for the facility occurred in April 2023, marking a milestone in the May 2021 Bond projects.

“Chevron is honored to support PBTISD’s launch of its oil and gas program," said Johnathan Harshman, Public and Government Affairs Advisor for Chevron. "Career and technical education like this can lead to well-paying jobs for PBTISD graduates in the energy industry. Chevron appreciates all PBTISD does to provide quality education to Pecos area students.”

“With the support of partners like Chevron, we are creating opportunities for our students to excel in the ever-evolving landscape of the Oil and Gas industry,” said Superintendent Brent Jaco. “This investment not only strengthens our commitment to quality education but also paves the way for innovation and growth in our students' careers. We are deeply grateful for Chevron's contribution and excited about the possibilities it unlocks for the future of PHS."

The new CTE facility will encompass a range of specialized spaces, including a Cosmetology salon, Veterinary/animal science lab, Health sciences and EMT lab, Culinary studio and bistro, Trade shops for auto mechanics, welding, and construction, robotics and drone makers space & lab, Oil and Gas classroom & lab, Multi-media lab, Science classrooms and labs, and Student collaborative learning spaces.

Unique highlights within the facility include a health sciences lab modeled after nurses' stations and patient rooms at the new Reeves Regional Health Hospital. The bistro, located on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the new Eagle Stadium, will be student-run, offering culinary arts and restaurant and hospitality management skills. The new multi-media and graphic design lab will introduce e-sports opportunities for PHS students.

PBTISD is set to become one of the first schools in Texas to offer an Oil and Gas Industry track program for high school students. The district is set to celebrate the next milestone of construction with the building's Final Beam Raising Ceremony on December 12 at 1:30 p.m.

The CTE facility will open its doors to students in August 2024.
