The $446,650,000 bond to complete the PBTISD facility needs passed on May 6. Of the three proposed propositions, unofficial results show Proposition A passed by 66% (970 FOR and 504 against); Proposition B passed by 65% (950 FOR and 509 against); and Proposition C passed by 66% (960 FOR and 494 against).

This bond is now the largest PBTISD that has ever passed in its history. It is the continuation of a long-range plan dedicated to bringing the district state-of-the-art educational facilities to support students and staff. The district is dedicated to managing the bonds in an aggressive and efficient manner to support taxpayers.

The bond will allow for many improvements to be made to the district. Proposition A includes a replacement Pecos High School, comprehensive additions and renovations to Crockett Middle School, additions and renovations to the PBTISD Transportation Complex, and a PBTISD Professional Development and Parent Support Center. Proposition B includes a replacement Pecos High School Natatorium. Proposition C allows for the purchasing of 1-to-1 devices for students and staff of the district.

“I’d like to thank the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah community for their support over the last three years,” Superintendent Brent Jaco said. “The passing of the 2021 and 2023 bonds could not have been possible without their trust, support, and affirming votes! Additionally, I’d like to thank the 2023 Stakeholder Steering Committee that structured this bond. They evaluated the needs of the district and recommend an excellent bond package. The improvements that will come from this bond will finish the district's facility needs and bring about tremendous upgrades to our educational facilities, providing students and staff with excellent learning spaces.”

Early schematic work has already begun for the Pecos High School and Crockett Middle School projects. The district plans to take a Guaranteed Maximum Price to the Board in Spring 2024 and begin work soon thereafter! The District will continue working on an aggressive timeline to complete all the projects this bond includes.

PBTISD plans to continue with the Community Bond Oversight Committee like the 2021 Bond.

Again, this committee will comprise community members to ensure complete transparency and accountability to ensure bond dollars are spent correctly and efficiently. Again, thank you to the PBTISD Community for believing in our school district and committing to doing great things for kids!
