PK-1ST GRADE CAMPUS - Austin Elementary

CURRENT STATUS: COMPLETED

Austin Elementary will be PBTISD's new Pre-Kindergarten through 1st Grade campus. The opening of this campus will reconfigure the grade levels and consolidate PBTISD to a 4 campus district. Students in Pre-K through 1st grade are still in the stage of learning to read

This facility is located on the same site as the original Austin Elementary (1502 Normandy). In September 2022, the PBTISD Board of Trustees voted to keep the name "Austin Elementary" with the campus since it is still on the same land where the current Austin sits.

The design of the campus started in June 2021 and included a collaborative process of community members, administration, teachers, coaches, paraprofessionals, and students working with VLK Architects.

The campus will include a 1,000-foot drop-off lane to ease traffic in the area, a STREAM, music, and art rooms, focused learning nooks, and collaborative learning steps. Additionally, the library/media center will be the core of the campus, so it is accessible to all students throughout the school day.

2ND - 5TH GRADE CAMPUS - Zavala Elementary

CURRENT STATUS: COMPLETED

Zavala Elementary will be PBTISD's new 2nd through 5th Grade campus. The opening of this campus will reconfigure the grade levels and consolidate PBTISD to a 4 campus district. Students in 2nd through 5th grade are now in the stage of reading to learn.

This facility is located on the site of the former Zavala Middle School which ceased operations as a campus in 2008. Following this, Zavala Middle School became utilized as the District's storage hub for the technology, maintenance, and child nutrition departments. Additionally, as the district's "DAEP" campus. In September 2022, the PBTISD Board of Trustees voted to name the school "Zavala Elementary" to honor the name with the location as "Zavala Middle School" was demolished to make space for the new elementary.

The school will also include a slide that connects the first and second floors!

Johnny V. Mata Service & Support Center and RISE Academy

CURRENT STATUS: COMPLETED

The Johnny V. Mata Service & Support Center and RISE Academy were created to centralize operations for three district departments: Maintenance, Child Nutrition, and Technology. Prior to the building of the Mata Center, the three departments used an older, uninhabited PBT Campus (Zavala Middle School) as their warehouse/storage space and officed out of other district buildings. The Mata Center is equipped with two large warehouses, one small warehouse, a test kitchen, a multi-purpose training room, a conference area, office spaces, and a staff lounge.

Additionally, this facility now houses the District's alternative campus (DAEP), RISE (Respectful, Impactful, Successful Eagles) Academy! The RISE Academy wing is equipped with three classroom spaces, administrative offices, a conference/meeting space, and two outdoor courtyard spaces with a half-court basketball area.

PBTISD Daycare - Discovery School

CURRENT STATUS: COMPLETED

The PBTISD Discovery School was created in 2018 to address the lack of daycare options available in the area for district employees. The creation of the daycare allowed employees to have high-quality, affordable, play-based care and worry less about where their children would go while they worked. The Discovery School serves children from 6 weeks of age to Pre-Kindergarten and after-school for children up to 9 years of age.

With the passing of the May 2021 Bond, dollars were allocated to revamp Austin Elementary’s 3rd-grade wing into the new daycare facility for the district. However, shortly after passing the bond, Reeves Regional Hospital and the Town of Pecos City reached out to PBTISD about partnering and developing a daycare that would support the staff of all three taxing entities. In the coming year, while the facility is being renovated, work will begin on a Memorandum of Understanding and appropriate pricing for the daycare facility with all entities.
